Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rice rava
  • 1/2 cup of urad dal

Method

  1. Wash and soak urad dal and fenugreek seeds in water for 4-5 hours.
  2. Wash rice rava and soak it in water for 2 hours.
  3. After soaking, drain the water from urad dal and fenugreek seeds, and grind them into a smooth batter using a wet grinder or blender. Add water as needed while grinding.
  4. Transfer the urad dal batter into a mixing bowl.
  5. Drain the water from rice rava and add it to the urad dal batter. Mix well.
  6. Add salt to the batter and mix well.
  7. Cover the batter and let it ferment overnight or for 8-10 hours.
  8. After fermentation, mix the batter well and add water if needed to adjust the consistency.
  9. Grease the idli plates with oil and pour the batter into each mold.
  10. Steam the idlis for about 10-12 minutes or until they are fully cooked.
  11. Remove the idlis from the mold using a spoon or knife.
  12. Serve hot with sambar or chutney.

  • Make sure to soak the rice rava and urad dal for the recommended time to get the best results.
  • If the batter is too thick, add water as needed to adjust the consistency.
  • If the weather is cold, fermentation may take longer. You can keep the batter in a warm place to speed up the fermentation process.
