Ingredient

  • 1 cup of rice
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes

  • 1/2 tsp of red chili powder

Method

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 20 minutes.
  2. Chop the onions and tomatoes finely.
  3. Heat the pressure cooker or pot and add oil.
  4. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  5. Add chopped onions and green chilies and sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  6. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  7. Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they turn soft and mushy.
  8. Add all the spices - coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  9. Add the soaked rice and mix well with the tomato-onion mixture.
  10. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
  11. Cover the pressure cooker or pot with a lid and cook for 2 whistles or for 15-20 minutes on low flame.
  12. Once the pressure is released, open the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.
  13. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with raita or papad.

  • Make sure to soak the rice for at least 20 minutes to get fluffy rice.
  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference.
