- 1 cup of rice
- 2 medium-sized tomatoes
- 1 onion
- 2 green chilies
- 1 tsp of ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp of cumin seeds
- 1 tsp of coriander powder
- 1 tsp of garam masala
- 1/2 tsp of red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
- 2 tbsp of oil
- Salt to taste
- Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 20 minutes.
- Chop the onions and tomatoes finely.
- Heat the pressure cooker or pot and add oil.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and green chilies and sauté until the onions turn translucent.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add all the spices - coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the soaked rice and mix well with the tomato-onion mixture.
- Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
- Cover the pressure cooker or pot with a lid and cook for 2 whistles or for 15-20 minutes on low flame.
- Once the pressure is released, open the lid and fluff the rice with a fork.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with raita or papad.
