- 1 cup basmati rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
- 500g boneless chicken or beef, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 tablespoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1 tablespoon corn flour
Equipment:
- Large pot
- Skewers
- Frying pan
Method:
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and fry until brown.
- Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute.
- Add the chicken or beef cubes and fry until brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, red chili powder, salt, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
- Add the tomato paste, soy sauce, and vinegar. Mix well.
- Cover the pot and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat.
- Add the marinated chicken or beef cubes and fry until brown and tender. Set aside.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot with 2 cups of water.
- Cover the pot and let the rice cook on low heat for 20 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix the corn flour with 2 tablespoons of water.
- Add the corn flour mixture to the pot and mix well.
- Add the fried chicken or beef cubes to the pot and mix well.
- Cover the pot and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
- Take out the shashlik skewers and serve with the rice.
Notes:
- Make sure to soak the rice for 30 minutes before cooking it.
- You can use any kind of meat for this recipe, but chicken or beef is the most common.
- You can also add any other vegetables of your choice.
