Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
  • 500g boneless chicken or beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon corn flour

Equipment:

  • Large pot
  • Skewers
  • Frying pan

Method:

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onions and fry until brown.
  4. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for a minute.
  5. Add the chicken or beef cubes and fry until brown.
  6. Add the chopped tomatoes, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, red chili powder, salt, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
  7. Add the tomato paste, soy sauce, and vinegar. Mix well.
  8. Cover the pot and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes.
  9. In a frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat.
  10. Add the marinated chicken or beef cubes and fry until brown and tender. Set aside.
  11. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot with 2 cups of water.
  12. Cover the pot and let the rice cook on low heat for 20 minutes.
  13. In a small bowl, mix the corn flour with 2 tablespoons of water.
  14. Add the corn flour mixture to the pot and mix well.
  15. Add the fried chicken or beef cubes to the pot and mix well.
  16. Cover the pot and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
  17. Take out the shashlik skewers and serve with the rice.

Notes:

  • Make sure to soak the rice for 30 minutes before cooking it.
  • You can use any kind of meat for this recipe, but chicken or beef is the most common.
  • You can also add any other vegetables of your choice.
