  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

Method

  1. Rinse the rice with cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the pot and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
  4. Add the rice to the pot and stir well to coat it in the spices.
  5. Add the coconut milk, turmeric powder, and salt to taste.
  6. Add enough water to the pot to cover the rice by about 1 inch.
  7. Bring the pot to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid.
  8. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked through and the liquid has been absorbed.
  9. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5-10 minutes to allow the rice to steam.
  10. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.

  • This recipe can be easily doubled or halved depending on the number of people you are serving.
  • You can add vegetables like carrots, peas, and bell peppers to the rice to make it more nutritious.
