Method

1. Rinse the rice and dal thoroughly in water and soak for around 10-15 minutes. 2. In a pressure cooker, heat oil over medium heat. 3. Add cumin and mustard seeds and wait for them to splutter. 4. Add onions and sauté until they turn translucent. 5. Add ginger garlic paste and sauté for a minute. 6. Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies and cook until the tomatoes are soft. 7. Add turmeric powder and salt and stir well. 8. Add the soaked rice and dal and mix well with the masala. 9. Add 4-5 cups of water and stir well. 10. Close the pressure cooker and cook for around 3-4 whistles or until the rice and dal are cooked and soft. 11. Once done, let the pressure release naturally. 12. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with papad, pickle, or raita.
