Method

  1. Wash the rice and toor dal in water and soak for 15-20 minutes.

  3. Add chopped onion and sauté till translucent. Add chopped ginger and garlic and sauté for a minute.
  4. Add chopped tomato and sauté till it turns soft and mushy.
  5. Add chopped vegetables and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add sambar powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add soaked rice and dal. Mix well.
  8. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.
  9. Cover and cook for 3-4 whistles in a pressure cooker or 20-25 minutes in a pot.
  10. Let the pressure release naturally. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
