Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice

  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Method

  1. Wash the rice in cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  3. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  4. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
  5. Add the chopped carrot and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the frozen peas and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt, and stir to combine.
  8. Drain the water from the rice and add it to the pot. Stir to combine.
  9. Add 2 cups of water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  10. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it cook for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed.
  11. Remove the pot from heat and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  12. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro (optional).

Notes

  • You can add any vegetables of your choice to this recipe.
  • If you want to add meat, you can cook it separately and add it to the rice at the end.
  • You can adjust the spices to your liking.
  • Leftover pulao rice can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
