- 1 lb tuna steak
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup white rice
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped scallions and sesame seeds for garnish
Equipment
- Large bowl
- Small bowl
- Frying pan
- Saucepan
- Wooden spoon
- Knife
- Cutting board
Method
- In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic to make the marinade.
- Add the tuna steak to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. In a saucepan, combine rice, coconut milk, and water. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked through.
- Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat. Remove the tuna steak from the marinade and discard the marinade. Season both sides of the tuna with salt and pepper to taste. Cook the tuna steak for 2-3 minutes per side or until browned on the outside and cooked to your liking on the inside.
- Remove the tuna steak from the pan and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice the tuna into thin strips.
- Divide the coconut rice into bowls. Top with sliced tuna. Garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds.
Notes
If you want a spicier flavor, add some red pepper flakes to the marinade. You can also substitute brown rice for white rice if you prefer a healthier option. To make this dish even more colorful and nutritious, you can add some steamed vegetables like broccoli or snap peas on top of the rice.Nutrition Info
